Birdwood Reserve community clean up - Sat 17th Feb, from 10 am
Birdwood Reserve (the one immediately in front of Karori tunnel) needs some love - there is a lot of rubbish in the reserve, tipped down into the gully - some old, some new, so Friends of Birdwood Reserve and I have organised a community clean up for Sat 17th, starting at 10 am. Meet at the Appleton Park carpark. If you can be there at the start it helps us organise who goes where. The more hands the more we get done. Please bring good footwear.
Council will provide bags, gloves and a truck at the end of the day.
If you don't know Birdwood Reserve the lovely Kaiwharawhara stream runs through it from Zealandia then under Appleton Park (former landfill). There is an increasing amount of birdlife spilling out from Zealandia so you could have avian company while you work! We are also planning building a track through the reserve next summer to link up with the round the Sanctuary track, and after that to deal with weed plants in the reserve.
For further details of the clean up please call me on 021 227 8537 or Hamish (Friends of Birdwood Reserve) on 027 7781761.
Warmest regards
Andy
