Call to support Lyall Bay community facility

Any day there’s a hint of sun and/or swell you’ll find thousands of surfers, dog walkers, runners, walkers, sunbathers, onlookers and others gathering at the Eastern/airport end of Lyall Bay.
Yet the facilities to service these groups are low or non-existent. The nearest toilet facility is a kilometre away and there are no play areas, picnic tables, bike racks or lockers.
Two local Lyall Bay parents Dan Eves and Sloan McPhee saw the opportunity to solve the facility issues by creating a gathering space for the community.

Eves and McPhee worked with a wider group of local volunteers to develop the concept further and gain input from the wider community.

The result is a concept that intends to be totally inclusive in design giving wheelchair users and other beach goers a panoramic view of the bay, skating facilities, picnic table and a Changing Places bathroom (with useful features to meet the needs of people who cannot use standard accessible toilets).

The group are urging locals to tell the council what they think of the idea.

Island Bay residents are being told to expect three months of foul odours due to maintenance work on a major sewerage pipe.
It’s another kick in the guts for a community that suffered through months of the “overpowering” stench of sewage after extensive damage was found in a pipe deep beneath Wellington in 2020.
Two four-metre-deep excavations will be dug into the road at the corner of Adelaide Rd and Dover St, so crews can remove, refurbish, and reinstall valves on a large sewerage pipe.
The work, which began on Monday, will continue until early July. Traffic is not expected to be impacted, but residents in the area received letters warning there may be construction noise and odour.

"Hi there my name is Vader aka Vaddie. I came into SPCA under unfortunate circumstances and have been under the care of the Veterinarian and Canine Team. I am now ready for my forever home.
It has taken a bit of time for me to come out of my shell and learn to trust people but once to do I am very loving and loyal. I would love quiet, predictable home with someone around for parts or all of the day as I am not comfortable with being left alone and thrive with company. I would love a home that enjoys going for walks and adventures but at the same understands that I am not always comfortable around the hustle and bustle of city life, I can be a very sensitive soul. I do however, have a playful side. I love playing with toys."

Since its launch in 2008, Snapper cards have been used for the overwhelming majority of bus trips in the capital.
Wellington was originally meant to add card payments to trains back in 2015, under a Waka Kotahi plan to expand Auckland’s AT HOP card to the capital.

I am an artist working in ceramics I have a masters from monash university in fine art. I have had a lovely studio in Shelly bay and recently been informed that we have to move out. I’m looking for a garage with a window or a seperate from house space pref with a lovely view that I can make art in. I am looking at buying a brand new kiln so I can run private classes in ceramics and cast glass. I tutor art around Wellington. My web page is www.irenakennedy.com... and my Instagram is @irenakennedycraft I would wnt to have access for any time I often do studio work at night. my budget is around the 50/60pw mark. Also open to trades. I have had my current studio for 3 years so hoping I can find something just as amazing.
