Wellington's regional council will this week lobby the Government to let it own and run its own buses in what would be a move back to the 1990s.
Regional council chairman Daran Ponter confirmed the council would this week make a submission to the Government which - assuming councillors agreed on Thursday - would call for a change in how public transport was tendered for and operated.
The key change would make it much easier for councils to buy and run buses rather than sending them out for tender. It would not necessarily mean councils retaking ownership of buses but would make that an option.

A new email scam impersonating the NZTA is being sent around telling vehicle owners their licences are due.

The email directs the recipient to renew the funds through clicking a 'Renew Now' button at the bottom corner of the email. It then takes the individual to fake website that gets them to fill in personal details.

CERT NZ, the government authority responsible for cyber security said in a tweet, that anyone who receives this email should report it directly to Waka Kotahi (NZTA).

How to spot a phishing scam:
- NZTA will only send an email through if an individual has contacted them first.
- Email addresses will always end in @nzta.govt.nz, @enews.nzta.govt.nz or @reply.nzta.govt.nz.
- The email may be missing specific details that the NZTA will have on file: such as your plate number, the date your vehicle license is due and vehicle make and model.
- Hover over buttons and links to see if the pop-up will take you to a genuine government (.govt.nz) website

Neighbourly will update this message as further information comes to hand.

This winter, our SPCA Wellington and Masterton Centres are heading out into the community to supply blankets and jackets to dogs living outside in kennels in the Wellington and Wairarapa region.

Just like us, animals feel the chill and over the winter months, so it’s important to provide your pets with extra shelter and more blankets to keep them dry and warm. It’s getting cold out there and our animals need protection from the elements too!

SPCA doesn’t want to see any dogs going without this winter. But... we need YOUR help to make this happen! Do you have any unused blankets or dog jackets? Our Wellington and Masterton Centres would greatly appreciate any donations of blankets and dog jackets to help canines out in the cold! Your donations will be vital in making a difference for dogs in our community.

If you have any blankets or dog jackets that you would like to donate, these can be dropped off at our Wellington or Masterton Centres, or at one of the following locations listed on our website: www.spca.nz.... We will be accepting donations for two weeks, from today till the 27 June.

Is your outside dog in need of a blanket for their kennel and a jacket this winter? Or do you know someone who would appreciate these items for their outdoor canine? Please reach out to our team by emailing wellington.info@spca.nz, with information on how many dogs require blankets and their sizes, and our team will be in touch.

PLEASE NOTE: This service is only available in Wellington and Wairarapa. Conditions apply, for more information please visit our website at www.spca.nz...
