Drivers stop to take photos and after a ruff day, office workers come up to Phil Krieg to ask if they can pat the group of dogs accompanying him along the footpath.
It's a hard sight to miss in Wellington, Krieg in his bright yellow vest walking a large group of dogs, moving together as a calm and orderly canine collective.
With Krieg as their leader, the dogs sit when they were told and moved to the side to make way for runners, other dogs and those walking on the footpath.
In 2008, Krieg’s wife, Penny, came up with their dog walking business, Loose Leash Dog Walking. Penny said they called it Loose Leash because that was the idea – walking the dogs on a loose leash and trusting them to behave.
The pair lead groups of dogs, ranging from 12 to 16, on walks around Wellington.

Alex Stewart came up with the idea for his business, WombatNET, when he was 13 and staying at the remote settlement of Turakina Beach, near Whanganui. Older people would often ask the tech-savvy teenager for help with their digital devices, and he soon realised how many people in the area were grappling with the same problem – unreliable and slow internet access.
After doing some research, he discovered that while it was relatively straightforward to connect properties to the fixed wireless broadband network using radio waves transmitted by towers, large internet providers often seemed reluctant to do so because it could be more expensive than using cables. So Stewart decided to meet the need himself.
In early 2020, WombatNET put up its first tower on private land just outside Upper Hutt. Since then, the company has built another 10 around Mangaroa and Whitemans Valley.
With demand for the service growing quickly through online and social media marketing and word of mouth, and as more people began to work from home amid the Covid-19 pandemic, Stewart was struggling to juggle running a start-up with his school work.

The three top floors of the CML building on Laings Rd will be refitted for 30 apartments in a $10 million project backed by developers John Feast and Ian Cassels.
Feast said he and Cassels bought the space about a year ago and believed much of the commercial space on the upper floors had been unused for several years.
With the conversion scheduled to be ready in 2022, extensive work including earthquake strengthening needed to take place.
