Navigators for Life at Karori West Normal School
Pasifika artist Michel Tuffrey is creating an impressive mural at Karori West Normal School.
Called “Navigators for Life” the mural is based on traditional celestial navigation used for sea voyaging in the Pacific.
Within the mural there will be two compasses recording the direction of where the sun rises in the east and sets in the west.
The wider purpose is to help students understand how sophisticated the navigation of their ancestors was and to encourage pride in their culture.
