Karori coronavirus support group

Tom Neighbourly Lead from Karori

I want to alert everyone in Karori neighbourly to the Karori coronavirus support group that Paul Stevenson set up earlier this morning. Support groups like ours are being set up by Neighbourly Leads across the country with the support of Neighbourly's national Team . . .

. . . to find local support during the Coronavirus pandemic. Please post offers to help those affected, or ask for help from neighbours while in self-isolation. Help can mean anything from assisting with groceries, running errands, walking a neighbour’s dog or simply having a friendly chat.

Please remember that Coronavirus is contagious - ensure you keep your distance (minimum 2 metres), wash your hands regularly and drop any items off at doorsteps.

I urge everyone who might be able and willing to be called upon to provide assistance to those in self-isolation to become members of the group. Even though we may have few people actually infected in the suburb, because so many of us travel and are involved in groups and gatherings of various kinds, the number who become self-isolated could become quite high.

Some Choice News!

Kia pai from Sharing the Good Stuff

DOC is rolling out a new tool to help figure out what to tackle first when it comes to protecting our threatened species and the things putting them at risk.

Why does this matter? As Nikki Macdonald from The Post points out, we’re a country with around 4,400 threatened species. With limited time and funding, conservation has always meant making tough calls about what gets attention first.

For the first time, DOC has put real numbers around what it would take to do everything needed to properly safeguard our unique natural environment. The new BioInvest tool shows the scale of the challenge: 310,177 actions across 28,007 sites.

Now that we can see the full picture, it brings the big question into focus: how much do we, as Kiwis, truly value protecting nature — and what are we prepared to invest to make it happen?

We hope this brings a smile!
