Hi everyone - Just to let you know that you have until Wednesday 28th to respond to public space design proposals for the Karori Town Centre.
Council has allocated $1 million for improvements to our Town Centre. A community working group has been working with Council staff to come up with four proposals to consider β with more details available on wellington.govt.nz...
Please do feel absolutely free to comment more broadly on your thoughts about other issues related to our Town Centre, because clearly we will need to do more than just these public space improvements. You might want to include any thoughts about transport, movement, parking and safety; or the future uses and design of the St Johns site; commercial development opportunities; completing the Karori Community Events Centre; or ways of creating greater identity and character and bringing more life into our Town Centre (etc). There is work being done on many of these other elements too. All this collectively is aimed at improving our Town Centre, making it more of a livable and attractive heart of our community.

DOC is rolling out a new tool to help figure out what to tackle first when it comes to protecting our threatened species and the things putting them at risk.
Why does this matter? As Nikki Macdonald from The Post points out, weβre a country with around 4,400 threatened species. With limited time and funding, conservation has always meant making tough calls about what gets attention first.
For the first time, DOC has put real numbers around what it would take to do everything needed to properly safeguard our unique natural environment. The new BioInvest tool shows the scale of the challenge: 310,177 actions across 28,007 sites.
Now that we can see the full picture, it brings the big question into focus: how much do we, as Kiwis, truly value protecting nature β and what are we prepared to invest to make it happen?
