"Thank you for your support to create an exciting day with meaningful engagement. We’ve been overwhelmed with positive responses about this event and you can be very proud of what we all accomplished together. We created an awesome nation-building programme and event that honoured the Treaty of Waitangi through respect, understanding and fun!
"The new Waitangi Day Festival event was expected to welcome 25,000 attendees and it’s estimated that we exceeded that number, with Porirua hosting the largest Waitangi Day event outside of Waitangi itself.
"The event offered more than 60 stallholders, 30 food vendors, and dozens of free family activities, including waka rides and Māori art demonstrations. This is a monumental accomplishment for Porirua and it would not have been possible without the many hands and sponsors that put it together.
"Porirua City Chief Executive, Wendy Walker says, 'The venue was fantastic, the stalls were great, the entertainment was varied and high quality and the waka were inspiring. Thanks to everybody who pitched in. It was definitely an all-hands-on-deck day. I’ve had wonderful feedback from all sorts of people. We also had our Blacktown sister city delegation who really got into the swing of things. I’m looking forward to next year already!'"
