Tramper faces his last great challenge
Many of you will have heard of backcountry stalwart Shaun Barnett.
A tramper, writer and historian he spent much of his life exploring the outdoors. Recently diagnosed with a brain tumour, he is working to finish his last book, Wild Notes.

Due to a crash at Tawa interchange, the road is CLOSED in both directions between Tawa on-ramp and off-ramp. Northbound Tawa on-ramp is also CLOSED.

Many New Zealand gardens aren’t seeing as many monarch butterflies fluttering around their swan plants and flower beds these days — the hungry Asian paper wasp has been taking its toll.
Thanks to people like Alan Baldick, who’s made it his mission to protect the monarch, his neighbours still get to enjoy these beautiful butterflies in their own backyards.
