Bee Friendly Gardens

Rod from Hive World Honey

If you are heading to a garden centre this summer, don't forget the bees.
Bees prefer flat open flowers or small clusters rather than large frilly double flowers, as it is easier for them to get into them to feed.
Bee friendly plants include:
ANNUALS -
Marigold, sunflower, poppies, nasturtiums, calendular, cosmos, etc
PERENNIALS -
Dahlias, geraniums, gladiolus, echinacea, comfrey, lavender, aquilegia, etc.
CLIMBERS-
Honeysuckle, clematis, NZ Jasmine, wisteria, etc.
FRUIT AND VEGETABLES -
Blackberry, cucumber, pumpkin, corgettes, all brassicas, pip and stone fruit, etc.
HERBS -
Borage, thyme, coriander, basil, mint, rosemary, all salvias, etc.

If you want to encourage bees, put similar plants in a group, this will provide a billboard for bees proclaiming "Lots of food here!"

Poll: Should the government levy industries that contribute to financial hardship?

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

As reported in the Post, there’s a $30 million funding gap in financial mentoring. This has led to services closing and mentors stepping in unpaid just to keep helping people in need 🪙💰🪙

One proposed solution? Small levies on industries that profit from financial hardship — like banks, casinos, and similar companies.

So we want to hear what you think:
Should the government ask these industries to contribute?
