To help keep kids warm and well this winter, Wellington Hospitals Foundation has launched its annual Jammies in June Appeal.
Respiratory conditions are a leading cause of acute admissions to hospital for children and Wellington Regional Children’s Hospital sees a significant increase in the number of children who are admitted over the winter months - many of them arriving without a pair of pyjamas.
Please donate a pair of brand NEW, size 1-16 flannelette pyjamas or thermals.
Please make sure that all pyjamas meet NZ product safety standards and carry the fire safety certification.
Due to the risk of infection, only new pyjamas can be accepted.

Or make a donation online at www.whf.org.nz... and Wellington Hospitals Foundation will buy a pair on your behalf.

New pyjamas can be dropped in to receptions at: Wellington Regional Hospital, Kenepuru Hospital, and Kapiti Health Centre. Or posted to: Wellington Hospitals Foundation, Wellington Hospital Private Bag 7902, Wellington 6242

The Tawa Lions Saturday market has moved to a new site within the Outlet City carpark effective from 29 May. The new site is adjacent to the Porirua Stream just North of the vehicle access bridge across the stream.

In recognition of the move, Tawa Lions have waived the normal fee of $10 for a stall or boot sale for the first three weeks - i.e. through to Saturday 12 June. So now is the time for new vendors, as well as those who have been before, to come along and sell their goods. Prospective vendors should contact Tawa Lions by email at "tawamarket@lionsclubs.org.nz" or phone Alastair on 232 7936, or Murray on 232 5947.

The Saturday market has now been operating on the Outlet City property for the past 15 years and Tawa Lions are most grateful to Outlet City management for allowing this. All funds raised from the market are directed back into the community for various projects such as supporting local youth and the Tawa Lions annual Christmas parade.

The market offers fresh fruit and vegetables from a Kapiti Coast market gardener and the Tawa Lions stall offers fresh free-range eggs, honey, home-made jam and second-hand books. The Lions stall is also a collection point for aluminium wine tops and unwanted spectacles for recycling, and used small batteries for disposal. Other vendors from time to time include a local nurseryman selling plants and shrubs, a bakery selling buns and rolls of various flavored spices and an Asian food vendor.

So, come over and have a browse around next time you call in to Outlet City between 9 am and 2 pm on a Saturday.

This month we’re rolling up our sleeves, putting up our hands, and saying ‘YES’ to giving our time and skills to projects that make Aotearoa a better place to live.

As a mostly volunteer-led organisation, our members know first hand the value and impact that a single volunteer can make in our communities. Imagine then how much can be achieved when several volunteers or even an entire street or neighbourhood decide to work together to achieve the same goal!

Whether you plan to coordinate your own volunteer driven activity, take part in one that’s already been setup, participate in National Volunteer Week (20-26 June), or simply show your own volunteers some extra love this month, know that every bit of effort to give back is a priceless investment in all of our futures.

Want to share your thoughts? Let us know how you’re getting involved this month by tagging us in your social media posts or emailing us your photos, videos, or experiences to:

This year’s Wellington on a Plate food festival is being billed as a chance to travel around the world and back in time.
The theme, Out of Place, was chosen by festival organisers to give the capital’s eateries inspiration for the month-long event which will take place in August. The organisers hope the restaurants will transport their guests to far-flung destinations with their international offerings.
Diners will also be able to go back in time. Daisy’s is set to celebrate Aunt Daisy, the well-known radio personalty who has been called New Zealand’s first foodie. Rita’s has been inspired by the dinners of early Pākehā settlers with their event Colonial Goose.
Katherine Mansfield’s childhood home will host guests, as will the Interislander, with restaurant Shepherd hosting a multi-course meal onboard the Kaitaki to recreate the golden age of travel.
