A scam or a fraud is any scheme designed to con you out of money or steal your personal information. If someone contacts you unexpectedly – whether over the phone, through the post, by email, on a website, in person or on social media – always consider the possibility that it may be a scam.

Scammers target lots of people, often for small amounts of money. They constantly evolve their approach making scams harder to spot. Most scams come from overseas, but they may pretend to be locally based — from a reputable company, bank, or government agency, or even from your friends on social media if your account has been hacked. It is very difficult to get your money back once it is sent overseas.

Scams hurt us all. You can protect yourself and others by learning how to spot scams, share what you see and report them.

Figure out if you are being scammed: Use these questions to help figure out if you have been targeted by a scammer.

We're returning to practices on Tuesday 3rd February 2026.

If you or someone you know has music as one of their New Year's resolutions we'd like you to join us and see if we can help you achieve your goals.

- Moving from being a learner musician into ensemble play.
- Picking up an instrument you played years ago.
- You're ready to step down from a more formal band.
- You've left College and are looking to keep your music going.
- As an experienced musician you'd like to have a go at band leading, band management, event management, composition or arranging.

We only have a few requirements - you must be able to read music, play a woodwind, brass or percussion instrument & be available from 7-8pm on a Tuesday evening and some weekends for concerts/events.

You can contact us by sending us a message, emailing us on info@tawalearnersband.org or calling Keryn on 027 4815812.

Reminder: From tonight, your journeys around Te Awa Kairangi ki Tai – Lower Hutt will change. We’re closing several roads to allow us full access to the areas where we’ll be building the new SH2 interchange at Melling and bridge over Te Awa Kairangi - Hutt River.
🚧 Queens Drive will close between Rutherford Street and High Street
🚧 Pharazyn Street will close from near Marsden Street to Block Road until approximately 2029
🚧 Block Road, the old Melling station car park, Melling Park and Ride and the northern section of the Riverbank car park will be permanently closed.
We’ll also have overnight closures in place for approximately six nights on the section of Rutherford Street between Melling Link and Queens Drive, as well as some overnight lane closures around the Melling intersection on SH2.
Please plan ahead and allow extra time for your journeys as you move around the city.
Closing these areas will give us space to move and build the new train station, shift utilities, make improvements to surrounding roads and improve the ground to support the new bridge and interchange.
