Pet of the Day: Meet Sir William McFloof

Reporter Community News

Kirsten Boardman and Sir William McFloof.

"I've recently adopted the most adorable older gentleman cat from Cats Protection Wellington. I'd really like to have Sir William McFloof in the weekly pet section to show how gorgeous and special he is, but also to highlight the wonderful and important work that CPW does.
CPW take cats that come from broken homes, who have owners who pass away or can't/don't want to care for them anymore :( They have them checked by the vet and if they are older and have health issues like William, they are placed in a foster care programme. This amazing programme means William's medical care is looked after by CPW and I care for his other needs and give him a warm home and lots of love.
William has cardiomyopathy, which is a hardening of the heart walls. I don't know how long I'll have with him, but every moment is so special. He is a very loving and chatty cat. He trots around everywhere with me, talking loudly about life. He is great company. We think he has some Maine Coon in him - these above personality traits and the heart condition are common in MC cats. He also has the cutest huge paws!
Having William as pet of the week would show how gorgeous he is and that it's a wonderful thing to give an older kitty love and safety in their last years."

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

The Reserve Bank has shared some pretty blunt advice: there’s no such thing as a “safe” job anymore 🛟😑

Robots are stepping into repetitive roles in factories, plants and warehouses. AI is taking care of the admin tasks that once filled many mid-level office jobs.

We want to know: As the world evolves, what skills do you think give a CV the ultimate edge in a robot-filled workplace?

Some Choice News!

Kia pai from Sharing the Good Stuff

DOC is rolling out a new tool to help figure out what to tackle first when it comes to protecting our threatened species and the things putting them at risk.

Why does this matter? As Nikki Macdonald from The Post points out, we’re a country with around 4,400 threatened species. With limited time and funding, conservation has always meant making tough calls about what gets attention first.

For the first time, DOC has put real numbers around what it would take to do everything needed to properly safeguard our unique natural environment. The new BioInvest tool shows the scale of the challenge: 310,177 actions across 28,007 sites.

Now that we can see the full picture, it brings the big question into focus: how much do we, as Kiwis, truly value protecting nature — and what are we prepared to invest to make it happen?

We hope this brings a smile!
