SENIORS WEEK - Spin Poi & Other Exercise Classes
Playing with poi is a lot of fun! I'm loving taking the Koha Spin Poi class on Thursdays in Kilbirnie, and great to have people from Neighbourly coming along. This upcoming week is Seniors week and I've got some extra Intro to Spin Poi classes happening around the Wellington area. Some of these are outside of the Eastern Suburbs, so please pass the info on to your friends and family who might be interested.

Please arrive 5-10 minutes before the starting time. Classes marked * = contact me for enquiries, or just turn up on the day. For all others, contact the venue to register. Note that the Kilbirnie Community Centre is in temporary premises around behind Farmers.
The Seated exercise class is an approved "Live Stronger for Longer" entry level class suitable for various forms of arthritis, MS, recovery from strokes or heart attacks, chronic fatigue, easing back into exercise and more.
SpinPoi can be done sitting or standing and is suitable for almost everyone. Inspired by traditional poi, it has been adapted by Dr Kate Riegle van West to be a safe and effective exercise, especially for older populations. On top of the usual benefits of exercise, typically people will see improvements in grip strength, attention, focus, balance and coordination. First introduced in New Zealand in 1927 with the passing of the Summer Time Act, it's what we know as 'Daylight Saving' and this year it ends on the first Sunday in April.
While we do get to sleep in this time around, some people would like to scrap the clock tinkering for good.
And why? Some evidence suggests the time changes are bad for our health as they mess with sleep patterns leading to short-term fatigue and affecting mood. Meanwhile the hour change is frustrating for farmers and a nightmare for getting the littlies to sleep. But what's your take?

For some, online booking is very convenient, you can make an appointment anytime without needing to wait on the phone. Others still prefer calling the clinic and speaking to a real person, especially if they have specific questions about their visit.
