The Annual Mission Fair for the Sisters of St Peter Claver is being held on Saturday 22 February.
Here is some info about the Sisters and what this year’s fundraising will be used for.
The Missionary Sisters of St Peter Claver came to Island Bay in 1952, to seek help for the missions in Africa and other continents. They are a unique congregation in that they don’t themselves work in the mission stations, but support and help the missions by prayer and sacrifice, plus fundraising. Each year they fundraise for a specific cause and in 2020 it is:
- To build three classrooms for children now at risk in South Sudan
- To finish a primary school for orphans and marginalised children in Nigeria
- To construct a house for a poor widow in Tanzania and provide a wheelchair for her handicapped daughter.
All money raised is given straight to the needy charities via diplomatic bag. There are no administrative costs.

Shaving 1.4m long dreads for charity!

Bree from Berhampore

Hey guys, I couldn’t figure out how to post this elsewhere, but my partner and I are doing a fundraiser for the Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome foundation of NZ and are looking for a little help! He will be shaving off his 1.4 metre long dreadlocks on the 15th of March and all proceeds go to charity.

The Ehlers-Danlos Syndromes are a group of 13 genetic connective tissue disorders resulting from a fault in the collagen. As collagen is one of the most abundant proteins in the body and is meant to stick everything together, this syndrome can have widespread and sometimes devastating effects. Who wouldn’t want to show up to play in flash shoes like these? Customise a fresh pair of footwear or fancy up some old favourites – while covering up scuff marks – with nothing more than a few Resene testpots, artist’s brushes and a bit of good quality masking tape.

If your kids are little, you can help mask off any of the harder parts – such as around the soles – that you want to keep paint off of and remove laces, if there are any. You can even use this idea to makeover adult shoes that never get worn because the colour doesn’t go with anything.

Make the most of this weekend with this easy step by step project idea from Resene.

Our waterways and all the fish and species that live in them are precious taonga, so we have set out to understand how they are valued and what should be done to provide the future we want for our water.

The importance of the environment, Hutt River and our waterways are important to me and critical to the well-being of current and future generations. We are looking forward to working with you to maintain and improve the quality of the water in our catchments. We need to fix our waste and stormwater infrastructure with population growth putting more pressure on our pipe networks. I need your help to find solutions that are equitable and fair.

Connect with us to talk about what we can do together. You can reach us at whaitua@gw.govt.nz. To see what we have been doing visit our Facebook page (www.facebook.com...), and to share what you value about our water and your solutions have your say (www.haveyoursay.gw.gov.nz...)
