Western Suburbs Stroke Survivors meeting - 9th January 2024

Our next meeting of the Western Suburbs Stroke Survivors will be on Tuesday 9th January 2024 at 10.30am at Huntleigh Home, 221 Karori Road.
To find us, go in and past Reception and turn right.
Did you know in New Zealand about 9,000 people each year have a stroke. Some 2,000 die from a stroke; about another 2,000 are left severely incapacitated, about another 2,000 have considerable disability and the rest have some disability or nearly recover. Nobody recovers completely.
It is estimated that some 50% of strokes can be avoided with life style changes.
Interested to find out what you can do to have a good chance to avoid a stroke??
We look forward to meeting all fellow stroke survivors, carers and friends and discussing how we are getting on.

Could the jury service process be improved?
Every year, thousands of New Zealanders are called up to serve as jurors in the High and District Courts, and it's an important way to contribute to your country.
But for some, jury service can be a huge disruption and a financial burden. Do you think changes could be made to our jury service system to address these challenges?

Following up on my last post for Karori Lions, we - and the Karori Food Bank - want to thank everyone who contributed to to the Food Bank collection last Saturday. The results of your generosity can be seen in the accompanying photo of the Food Bank's storage shelves which are now looking pretty healthy!
The Food Bank's services have been in heavy demand in recent months and this demand can now be met with good confidence for the next period.
We will be holding our next major collection in early November, but remember that the Food Bank always welcomes your donations at any time of the year, and they can be left in the labelled bin at the Karori Community Centre.
