Musical Commemoration on 75th Anniversary
If you loved the enduring era of Frank Sinatra, Doris Day, Perry Como, Dame Vera Lynn and the Glenn Miller and Tommy Dorsey big bands, then D-Day Dedication at The Globe on June 8/9 will have strong appeal.
But alongside the immortal music of the 1940s, there’s an even more important event being commemorated.
The concert, which pays tribute to all those great artists, marks the 75th anniversary of the Normandy landings. D-Day Dedication commemorates the turning point in the war by presenting the music of the era sung and played by Vicki Lee, Kathi Craig, Erna Ferry, the PNBHS Stage Band, Douglas Ransom, a male chorus and many more.
Vicki Lee has just returned from a South Island tour singing the music of “the forces’ sweetheart”, Dame Very Lynn, whom she’s met and is still alive at 102.
A particular highlight will be a special Roger Buchanan arrangement of Blue Smoke, one of the most popular New Zealand songs of all time. It will be sung by Ruru’s grand-daughter, Karla Karaitiana, with an ensemble.
Venue: Globe One
Performance on: Saturday, June 8 & Sunday, June 9.
