Heritage Rescue looks at Pahiatua...

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

Hi neighbours - we're loving this series from the team at Heritage Rescue - this week looking at Pahiatua! Brigid discovers the heart-wrenching story of hundreds of Polish children fleeing war torn Europe. Between 1944 and 1949 a camp just outside the small Wairarapa town of Pahiatua was home to 700 children and 100 adult carers. We meet some of the Polish children of Pahiatua, who tell us the amazing story of how they escaped the Nazis and the Soviets, spent almost two years in a Siberian work camp and then a Red Cross station in Persia. Can Heritage Rescue help the local museum honour those we gave sanctuary to, many of whom now call themselves Kiwis?

Caroline Bartle, Ryman’s Dementia Care and Innovations Lead, says that using appropriate language when referring to people with Alzheimer’s and other types of dementia can foster a more inclusive society.
