Christmas Safety
Protect your loved ones, and prepare your home for the summer break festivities.
Kiwi Christmas means BBQ’s and lots of rellies coming to stay.
We want everyone to have a great summer break and take these simple steps to prepare their homes to be fire safe this holiday season.
• Check your BBQ for gas leaks using the soapy water test.
• If you have a fire call 111
• Save the beers for after cooking the BBQ, and get takeaways or use a microwave for a feed when you come back from a Christmas function.
• Make sure all sleeping areas have a working, long-life photoelectric smoke alarm.
• Check your Whanau’s smoke alarms. If they don’t have one, give them the gift of life and get them one for Christmas.
• If your door has a deadlock, leave the key in so people can escape quickly.
• Keep exits clear
• Have agreed safe meeting place and make sure any guests know where this is, and how to escape in an event of a fire.
Have a safe and very Merry Christmas from the team here at Wanganui Fire Station.

Poll: Do you think NZ should ban social media for youth?
The Australian Prime Minister has expressed plans to ban social media use for children.
This would make it illegal for under 16-year-olds to have accounts on platforms including TikTok, Instagram, Facebook and X.
Social media platforms would be tasked with ensuring children have no access (under-age children and their parents wouldn’t be penalised for breaching the age limit)
.
