Auckland's iconic 'creepy' Santa in pieces in Wānaka lot until next Christmas
Auckland’s iconic “creepy” Santa, who for decades towered over Queen St’s Christmas shoppers, is currently lying dismembered in a large lot in Wānaka – and will be until next Christmas.
The 18-metre tall figure was shipped south last year after it was announced Christmas 2019 would be his last, and he and his reindeer would be going into retirement.
But while it might come as a shock to some to see Santa in pieces, his new owner National Transport and Toy Museum curator Jason Rhodes said the plan was to return Santa to his former glory. Just not right away.
