Marlborough residents become citizens

The Team from Marlborough District Council

Twenty four local residents became New Zealand citizens at a special ceremony at Marlborough District Council last week. Albanian national Tony Sena is pictured with his family, Mayor John Leggett, Lt. Commander Neil Connell and Flight Lt. Thomas Cookson.

Twelve nationalities, including Hungarian, Zimbabwean, Albanian and Brazilian, were represented. Each new citizen took a special oath of allegiance to the Queen, to fulfil their duties as new citizens.

The ceremony took the number of new local citizens to 141 this year. Three more ceremonies are planned before Christmas.

Poll: Should the government levy industries that contribute to financial hardship?

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

As reported in the Post, there’s a $30 million funding gap in financial mentoring. This has led to services closing and mentors stepping in unpaid just to keep helping people in need 🪙💰🪙

One proposed solution? Small levies on industries that profit from financial hardship — like banks, casinos, and similar companies.

So we want to hear what you think:
Should the government ask these industries to contribute?
