Former Waimakariri mayor David Ayers says the district has two of the most seismically-secure towns in the country, although he’d be happy not to have them tested in his lifetime.
Friday marks 10 years since the devastating September 4 quake that caused one-fifth of Kaiapoi to be red-zoned, and extensive damage to other parts of the district.

As reported in the Post, there’s a $30 million funding gap in financial mentoring. This has led to services closing and mentors stepping in unpaid just to keep helping people in need 🪙💰🪙
One proposed solution? Small levies on industries that profit from financial hardship — like banks, casinos, and similar companies.

‘Rangiora Bells’ is seeking musicians to join the handbell choir. We are a friendly group of handbell ringers who enjoy making music and entertaining at community groups.
If you would like to come and have a go at ringing handbells, please come along to one of our practice sessions. No commitment necessary if you decide that this is not for you.
An ability to read basic music notation preferred.
