No more so than when prospective buyers went through a home that they actually owned and lived in and of course wanted to get out of. They treated the arrangement as though they had never seen their house and property before and thus as per one of the show's three houses presented to them for considering to buy.

Then in the final episode of the 2024 series, there were a family of six plus two dogs and a cat looking for a large home in Lower Hutt city.
Some country and to top it off it was billed as the Hutt Valley at least a dozen times yet the three houses shown to the family were all in Lower Hutt - a Western Hills suburb home, one in the heart of Naenae and the third a near historical house in urban Petone. The latter was too small for me, my wife and Corgi.

So no Upper Hutt but still billed as the Hutt Valley with its near 170,000 combined population. I suppose "Hutt Valley" has a countryside connotation.

FREEDOM, EQUALITY IN SPADES IN NZ

NZ may have somewhat lost many of the features that have made us a great nation worldwide in the past but not that of democracy.

in the latest survey (2023) on the most democratic countries in the world, NZ sits in second place behind Norway.

Interestingly both countries are similar in population and sit at either end of the globe.

Australia ranks ninth, the UK 21st and the USA sliding to 26th.

The USA has never been in the top 10 since these international surveys started which is ironic because Americans think and are told they are the greatest democratic nation the world has ever seen. Land of the free. Yeah right.

So living in a exceedingly democratic country and all that is meant to entail, it seems even more ludicrous that the city of Upper Hutt, has landed in a situation with its water pipes that has gone unresolved and almost unchecked over a lengthy period of years and a blind eye to it has been cast by elected councillors and Mayors and the staff they harbour.

Whistling Sisters in Wellington produced great craft beer and its fancy, modern and large restaurant in Wellington's CBD provided delightful fare.
Now its closed waiting for a buyer and not producing beer.

Boneface, the anchor of the craft beer breweries-restaurants in Brewtown, Upper Hutt is up for sale.

Kereru which to me is among NZ's top three craft beer breweries and also located on the doorstep of Brewtown had 12 staff in 2019 including the owners now it has 3 including the owners.

Other closures and push-backs of craft beer establishments are dotted throughout NZ.

The craft beer industry in NZ is under threat due to the cost of living crisis.

I would recommend that our local Upper Hutt and Wellington region craft beer breweries be supported for those who can afford to pay the few dollars extra for infinitely superior beer.

Cat care/housesitter wanted

Hi Upper Hutt!

Hi Upper Hutt!

I'm heading away to Australia for a good friend's wedding at the start of February and looking for a catsitter to come and stay with my two rescue kitties, Maeve (black and white) and Luna (tabby). They grew up in a colony before being taken in by a cat rescue and are still pretty weary of people at first so any sitters must be willing and able to come and meet them and me in person before the sitting dates (5-14 February) please.

I have a lovely 2 bedroom house in Trentham/Wallaceville, pretty close to Upper Hutt city (about a 20 min walk) and Wallaceville train station (a 10 minute walk).

Looking for a quiet non-smoking sitter, preferably a single person as that's what the cats are used to. Needs to be willing to stay overnight each night in my house with the cats, NOT just visits. They are shut inside at night and are pretty good at turning up for dinner (I shut the cat door before feeding them) or coming when their names are called or treat bags are shaken (if they're just having a really good time outside!). It's hardest at the current time when it gets dark so late into the evening so last resort is to put the cat door on inwards only and wait (after calling their names at intervals for a while).

Bonus if you can water and keep an eye on my (novice) gardening efforts, which will generally be feline supervised if they're still outside.

After the February dates, I do have two further sets of dates for sitting, so finding someone willing to discuss/look at future sitting dates would be lovely for continuity.

Please message me if interested and available, as well as with any questions.

Thanks!
