Crime and Punishment

Michael from Trentham

Labour-Green coalition Government implemented its policy of lowering numbers in prisons and so sentences given have often reflected this.
National and ACT want to get tougher on crime whixh means increasing crims sent to prison and the dishing out of longer prison terms.

National-ACT also want to decrease Government spending.

But these two things are not necessarily compatible because more sent to prison and increased time spent in.a prison means the need for more prisons to be built. And that runs into hundreds of millions of dollars let alone finding prison staff. At present there are dozens of staff vacancies at Rimutaka Prison in Upper Hutt.

HAPAI CLUB WATER LEAK

Chris from Clouston Park - Kingsley Heights

I pass the hapai club regularly & wonder when the water leak from the toby will be fixed. It has been leaking for at least two months. Hundreds of litres running across the side walk & down the drain.
