Check out the photo of a kaka by Gorrie and the tūī by Marie. Which picture do your prefer?

So Wellington is the fourth most liveable city in the world.
Great.
But in gaining this status Wellington can also thank its immediate neighbouring cities and areas to its north accessible to a large degree by suburban rail including Upper Hutt and Martnborough.

Upper Hutt is in the throws of becoming more valuable and recognisible in this modern era as an adjunct to the Capital. There is Brewtown now and the yet to be completed sports campus and movie production facility. And in Martinborough and other parts of the Wairarapa there is world class wine production on a notable scale. All these things plus the attraction of beaches on the Kapiti Coast, help to make Wellington what it is.

The Wellington SPCA is appealing for donations for a puppy recently rescued in Upper Hutt.
At just three months old, Piglet was covered in one of the worst cases of mange the SPCA vets had seen.
Piglet’s skin was red, raw and weeping. Mange is a debilitating skin disease caused by parasitic mites. Left untreated like this, it is horrific and extremely painful.
Found wandering the streets alone, the disease had ravaged Piglet's skin, and she was in significant pain and discomfort.
Her medication is expensive and SPCA vets say she will need a lot of care.

Friday Feathered Friend

This weeks contribution comes from Louise Thomas.

"Is that a little blue sky this afternoon? I feel like a mole rat emerging after a week in the burrow. This grey warbler/riroriro (Gerygone igata) seems pretty happy to see the sun. He's posing in a cedar tree for Christmas cards."
