Just an update on this. The old 92 and 93 bus services are still operating, just running privately now, so no snapper card. However, the costs are competitive and NCS have made paying so easy (bus now pay later, 10-trip ($75), or monthly). The buses have improved since the changeover and the regular bus drivers are lovely people who will put a smile on your face before you get to work. However, numbers are really low at the moment and bums on seats are needed to keep these convenient services going. Unfortunately many Upper Huttians (is that a word?) simply don't know about these commuter services, so I encourage any and everyone to try them out. There is a 40-yr heritage to these routes, apparently started by old man Runciman himself. It will be a sad loss indeed if we lose them. The 92 bus runs from Plateau rd thru Gemstone Drive and Totara Park; the 93 bus goes thru Timberlea and along Fergusson. Both then go express and will get you to Courtney Place around 7:30am. This work will unlock significant visitor potential of the isolated and beautiful area. Realising the visitor experience depends on replacing the 86-year old bridge, which has reached the end of its useful life, to provide reliable and safe vehicle access over the river.
Access is still possible by foot and cycles. Contractors are on site now and once construction is finished, the old bridge will be taken down. We’re excited to have this underway and the new bridge in place before Christmas.
