Well the number of … View moreDomPost had a sizeable story last week on new housing and commercial developments in the Wellington region. One of the story's highlight was the Wallaceville Estate/The Reserve private housing development which the DomPost said would eventually produce 900 new homes.
Well the number of dwellings for this Gillies Group enterprise has previously stood at a smidgeon over 700, And despite some minor developmental changes since plans were first (and subsequence to this) drawn up, the dwelling total has moved very little. And so the 700 new houses as a result of this ongoing develoment is correct and the 900 is not. The difference is a matter of some 600 less people being housed in the Wallaceville Estate.
So the DomPost got it wrong. They never contacted the Gillies Group either before the story or after.
Maybe other information produced in the story is also incorrect.

Kapiti will benefit the most but so too will regular travellers and holiday makers especially during peak hours. And how many people have been caught up on a weekend afternoon or evening trying to get back to the Hutt Valley/Wellington/Porirua?
A coulpe of years ago I thought I would play smart and not leave the Levin area until after 8.30pm on a Sunday to avoid the usual traffic snarls. No such luck. Last time I was up that way and heading home on a Sunday evening we left near midnight and managed a clear run. But this is what one had to do in order to not face tiresome, time consuming and expensive motoring.
Then of course there is the fragility of Cennential Drive (Pukerua Bay-Paekak).
Shame that Transmission Gully will be like every other highway and motorway in NZ and only fit for a company such as Filton Hogan to hugely profit from because the road making processes in NZ equates to repairing and resurfacing at regular intervals.
Transmission Gully is 27km in length and took from Sept 2014 to March 2022 of construction and certification. It is said that a similar undertaking in China would have taken just 2 years and get this: the roading in China would last in tip top condition for years and years.
Roll-on the motorway extension to Levin to further make inroads to four-lane driving all the way from the outskirts of Wellington.
Kapiti is the fastest growing area in the Wellington region and one of the fastest in development in NZ and this will only be accelerated with the Transmission Gully motorway. Its lifestyle will change forever.
So that is one route out of Greater Wellington being attended to. The other is the road to the Wairarapa and one can only sigh in either relief or in agony that a vehicular tunnel through the Remutakas would create another speedy outlet/inlet and would have created a completely different lifestyle to that enjoyed or otherwise in the Wairarapa.

You can discount the other fewer and cheaper options as even the awe inspiring Sheeran is too small to see clearly from a distance - he is not a towering giant like a NBA basketball player nor a pudgy overweight AB rugby prop. Quite the opposite really.
Well, I suppose it is cheaper than taking in a major concert in Auckland for us Wellingtonians - when you total up airfares, accomodation, other travel costs, food plus the price of the show which not too long ago use to be around $100 less than Ed Sheeran's "minders" in Wellington are demanding.

It must be noted that Russia and the USA have both used chemical weapons in previous wars on multiple occasions.
If NATO and Europe including of course in both instances the UK get into conflict with the Russians (and possibly the Chinese), should NZ go into battle as we have done in the first and second world wars?
DO we side with the Ukrainian who famously said:"Russian warship, go @%&* yourself" not only in words but in action. Or should we be like USA in the second world war and assist our allies in other ways than sending troops and only physically take part if attacked. I suppose Trentham army base will become a target which does not make the surrounding residential areas safe havens.
I wonder if there is any extra urgency at this juncture within the Trentham ranks.
