Youth & Search Rescue Trust - Tauranga
14 to 18 year old students from the whole Bay of Plenty are trained in volunteering and helping rescue people. They learn First Aid, searching in urban and back country situations, water safety, leadership and many more amazing life changing subjects. This organisation receives no government funding and relies on grants and donations to train these amazing young people. VOTE NOW!
Seddon Community and Neighbourhood Support Group
Seddon is our small rural township located to the south of Blenheim on SH1. Rocked and devastated (again) by the quakes in November 2016. With the loss of access to Christchurch via the Main North Line, and SH 1, we are at the “end of the line”. Every one of our self employed residents has taken a huge hit, many of whom can no longer support themselves especially with the removal of all emergency funding as of the 14th February. we are hoping to be able to provide to the whole community, access to essential first aid kits at reasonable and affordable costs to all the residents. It is for this initiative we are seeking some funding in order to subsidise these kits. VOTE NOW!!

That’s the message from Wellington Police as the city prepares to welcome thousands of music lovers for the Homegrown festival this weekend.
“Homegrown is a big event for the capital. We want to keep the city safe and vibrant for all those attending the event as well as those who are simply enjoying the city,” says Wellington’s acting Prevention Manager Inspector Clint Walker.
“If you’re going to be drinking, know your limits. Take care of yourself and look out for your mates. This includes planning for a long day, staying hydrated and eating during the day/night.
“Gross intoxication can and does ruin a lot of good nights – the event is a great thing for music and Wellington, don’t ruin your experience by drinking excessively and missing the Kiwi artists on the line-up.”
Festival-goers are also reminded of Wellington’s 24/7 public liquor ban in the city centre.
It is an offence to drink and possess alcohol in the defined public place liquor-free zone. This includes drinking alcohol in vehicles that may be parked in the liquor-free zone.
“The rules of the ban still apply this weekend and we will be actively enforcing them,” says Inspector Walker.
“Don’t be surprised to be issued an alcohol infringement notice for breaching the liquor ban if you decide to consume alcohol outside of the designated sites or bars in the city.”
Wellington’s liquor-free zone includes Wellington Central area, Oriental Bay, Mount Victoria lookout, Aro Valley, Central Park, Mount Cook and Newtown.

The harm reduction campaign, which is targeted at and co-designed with 18-25 year olds, has been developed by Massey University … View moreCheck Yourself has launched today – a Wellington City Council and NZ Police collaboration urging young Wellingtonians to understand the consequences of their actions. The harm reduction campaign, which is targeted at and co-designed with 18-25 year olds, has been developed by Massey University creative enterprise students in response to recent statistics.
Research from the Metro Neighbourhood Policing Team (CBD’s Community Police) indicates that young adults in Wellington are overrepresented in anti-social behaviour (criminal and non-criminal), and one third of 18-24 year olds drink alcohol to a level that carries a risk of harming the drinker’s physical or mental health, or having harmful social effects on the drinker or others. With the principle aim of encouraging young people to understand the consequences of their actions, the digital and print based campaign, Check Yourself uses common Kiwi slang to address problems before they escalate.
Acting Area Prevention Manager Inspector Clint Walker adds: "Police are working closely with Wellington City Council to reduce the incidents of alcohol harm as we strive towards everybody being safe and feeling safe".
The campaign will also use outdoor advertising, including large carnival mirrors, which will be installed throughout the entertainment district and at events such as O-Week and Jim Beam Homegrown festival. The mirrors will be used as part of a social competition, encouraging young people to share their pictures on Twitter and Instagram using #CheckYourselfNZ to win a range of exciting prizes, including tickets to Homegrown at Wellington Waterfront.
