Toxic algae alert - Hutt River at Silverstream

The Team from Wellington Water

Toxic Algae has returned to the Hutt River at Silverstream, and Greater Wellington Regional Council is advising against swimming or walking your dog from Moonshine Park to Pomare Bridge.

There’s also new growth at Birchville, Maoribank Corner and Poets Park, though at lower levels. It’s still safe to use those parts of the river, but keep an eye out and avoid any areas where you see toxic algae.

They’re not currently concerned about toxic algae elsewhere in the region.

You’ll see educational signs along the riverbank, warning you to keep an eye out for toxic algae, and you can learn more about it in this video: www.gw.govt.nz...

Poll: Should the government levy industries that contribute to financial hardship?

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

As reported in the Post, there’s a $30 million funding gap in financial mentoring. This has led to services closing and mentors stepping in unpaid just to keep helping people in need 🪙💰🪙

One proposed solution? Small levies on industries that profit from financial hardship — like banks, casinos, and similar companies.

So we want to hear what you think:
Should the government ask these industries to contribute?
