disappointment with the UHCC 10 year plan decision to not introduce kerbside recycling
Is there anyone else who is disappointed with the Upper Hutt City Council's decision to not introduce kerbside recycling despite nearly 1 in 2 submissions to the council in favour of that action. Yes, it will bring a small increase in our rates but it will make it possible for the vast majority of residents to take action & reduce the waste stream heading to landfill. The council has chosen to do an Admiral Nelson & turn their blind eye to the problem. We need to "Think global & act local". We are the only council in the region not doing kerbside recycling. Yes, the council has voted to increase some recycling by creating a second recycling station, similar to Park St. at the southern end of the city near to Silverstream, Heretaunga & Pinehaven but this only serves the wealthy who have the time & money to be able to drive & deposit their recycling.
