Marigolds
Beautiful orange or yellow spring colours for the garden. Each Petite Marigold flower grows to golf ball size. Two flowers and some buds on each plant in 10 to 12 cm pots. Pick up in Upper Hutt. Cash please. Plant in a lovely sunny spot where they are attracting pollinators and deter pests as companion plants in the garden. Two examples of the marigolds in the 4 photos. Many New Zealand gardens aren’t seeing as many monarch butterflies fluttering around their swan plants and flower beds these days — the hungry Asian paper wasp has been taking its toll.
Thanks to people like Alan Baldick, who’s made it his mission to protect the monarch, his neighbours still get to enjoy these beautiful butterflies in their own backyards.
