A new bill supported by both major parties strips red tape from the building process in an effort to accelerate medium-density housing.
The rule change will allow people to build up to three homes of three storeys on most sites in Wellington without any need for resource consent from August 2022.

Kia ora Upper Hut, 2022 will be encouraging people to connect through kai. This could be sharing a cuppa, fresh produce, a recipe or hosting a picnic or BBQ.

We thought we would kick things off now by encouraging people to share a favourite recipe.

This could be a whānau favourite, your aunty’s special chutney, a secret (or potentially not!) curry dish, or your most-loved cake.

We’ll then share your recipe throughout the land for people to try, share, and enjoy within their communities.

Either email your recipe to kiaora@neighboursday.org.nz or submit it here - www.neighboursday.org.nz...

Trentham's Name Change

Like so much of the British past, like since the 1830s when it comes to NZ, names of important almost everything have been immortalised with British names and led occasionally in this regard by church members.

So one of the staunch suburbs of Upper Hutt. was named Trentham.

Now there is this growing surge to rename places with their original names vis Maori descriptive names. So out of their box of tricks, a group of church goers suddenly stepped in to squash any Marori- ness and renamed Trentham, Trantham. New but not too new; different but not too different; trendy but not too trendy - though "taking a train to Trantham" has a certain ring to it.

Those who want the suburb reglued to its Marori name will be disappointed at this cleverness . Trantham has already received a lot of publicity and almost no opposition.

The Maori name for the Trantham area is Ma-Wai-Hakona. It may now never be bestowed as Ma Wai Hakona/Mawai Hakona.

SPCA Pet of the Day: Meet Chewie

Chewie the rabbit.

I would love to be a single indoor bunny where I get all the human attention. I am a clean boy and will go into my large litter tray for toileting. I love gentle pats on my head and sometimes come up to you for treats. I regularly binkie around super fast, and when I'm tired I do bunny flops as I am a happy boy.
I love space and the outdoors so I will need a large grassy area with a weatherproof hutch for outside during the day. My indoor area must be big enough for me to spend the day and night comfortably. My caregivers ask that rabbits always come inside at night, to be part of the family and to keep me safe. I could go to a home with friendly cats as I've met some before."

Around 400,000 eligible people living in NZ still need their first Covid vaccination jab.

That is a lot of high risk takers for spreading and contracting the disease.

One Pfizer jab is insufficient. One way of describing it, is: one jab gives up to 57% protection whereas two jabs gives up to 95% protection.

The full vaccination of two Pfizer jabs is mandatory for all workers in MIQ facilities, ports and airports. It is now mandatory for another grouping of workers with the first vaccination inserted by November 15 and these are: all educational teachers and school staff, healthcare workers and staff.

Listened to a seemingly educated middle aged English woman on ZB this morning who said that in NZ there is so much over concern and anxiety with Covid 19 whereas in England no one is very concerned and just go about their normal lives.
Well so much for concern. In the UK 8.4 million have been infected (England 7.1 million) and 139,000 deaths (England 121,000). Concerned NZ: 4,900 and 28.
