Gather friends & family and come to our Devonshire Tea, run by The 8th Count LA Tour fundraising committee. This event is to support 22 young dancers from The 8th Count of Upper Hutt, who were recently successful in submitting an audition application to travel to the USA in July 2020 on a development tour.

Tickets are $15 each please email Latour8thcount@gmail.com

Traditionally Devonshire Tea is scones with cream & jam, which of course we’ll have, but there will also be another couple of delicious items on the menu.

As an extra treat the dancers will perform at each session also

Congratulations to the Housing Trust for persauding the Mayor and Council into reconsidering their stance on social housing. The Trust has a passionate, knowledgeable and courageous spokes person in Teresa Homan.

What the Trust achieved was because they turned up in person and let their elected representatives know what the people who live and pay rates here in, want their city to be. Which is not to exclude a demographic with marginal choices from being able to live in Upper Hutt, whether they orignated here or not.

Democracy in action, reminding our elected representatives and public servanats – who serves who.
I read about it in the Leader – Front page no less – I thought those days were over!

I do have to question as to why the Mayor and Council are lacking the compassion to help house our citizens, whoever they are, whatever their circumstances?

Is there an agenda by this Mayor and Council to discourage a certain demographic from being part of our city scape?

LIBRARY

Well every time I go something else isn't working, 2 weeks ago it was the system that allowed you to borrow a book and get a receipt, The Librarian issued my book and return date with pen and paper. I look forward to a Library Review Meeting!

Supporting Our Young People – May 1st to 31st 👥

‘The children are our future.’ It’s a well-loved cliché around the world because it’s absolutely true. The hopes and dreams we have for our communities are only as strong as the children and young people who continue to believe in them long after we’re gone.

This month is all about supporting our young people, to encourage and empower them to not only be the change-makers and community builders of tomorrow but also the best versions of themselves. To listen to their perspective and remember that it’s not just about what we can teach them, but what lessons they can teach us. After all, the recipe for creating healthy, happy children includes a lot of the same ingredients for building safer, more resilient and connected communities.

Want to share your thoughts?

Let us know how you’re supporting young people in your communities this month by tagging us in your posts + using the following hashtag so we can see what you get up to:
