If you have ever wondered why Centennial Drive is rated the best park In MPDC and always looks tidy it is because the Centennial Drive Development Societies volunteers on every 3rd Tuesday of the month, between 9am and 10.30am, weed, prune, plant, spray, clean and tidy and maintain the two fountains. We make our piles for KVS to take away. At 10.30am we are rewarded with morning tea with homemade savories and cakes and a catch-up natter. Many New Zealand gardens aren’t seeing as many monarch butterflies fluttering around their swan plants and flower beds these days — the hungry Asian paper wasp has been taking its toll.
Thanks to people like Alan Baldick, who’s made it his mission to protect the monarch, his neighbours still get to enjoy these beautiful butterflies in their own backyards.
