Updated: One confirmed, up to six possible cases of Covid-19 in Tokoroa
Hi neighbours,
Tokoroa has one confirmed and up to six probable cases of Covid-19.
South Waikato Mayor Jenny Shattock confirmed to Stuff that her council was advised at around 5.30pm on Thursday following a staff member potentially being linked with a known Auckland case.
“We were notified last night by the regional Civil Defence controller who had a phone call from the Ministry of Health,” she said.
However, a screenshot of an email from Shattock to South Waikato District councillors paints a grim picture for the small Waikato town. “Unfortunately we have a confirmed case of Covid in Tokoroa and a probable case plus five others have been tested as some of them are unwell,” the email said.
“At this stage, we have (name withdrawn) in isolation and the nurse who swabbed the patient plus a council staff member.”
A council source confirmed that the email was legitimate. Click here to read more.

Poll: Do you think NZ should ban social media for youth?
The Australian Prime Minister has expressed plans to ban social media use for children.
This would make it illegal for under 16-year-olds to have accounts on platforms including TikTok, Instagram, Facebook and X.
Social media platforms would be tasked with ensuring children have no access (under-age children and their parents wouldn’t be penalised for breaching the age limit)
.
