Will you be letting fireworks off on Guy Fawkes?

Nicola Brennan-Tupara Reporter from South Waikato News

Hi neighbours,
So Guy Fawkes is upon us again which means lots of people letting off fireworks in their own back and front yards.
Each year there are calls to ban private use of fireworks, so we want to know...will you be letting some off tomorrow?

The Leith Place redevelopment continues its inexorable journey to completion and hopefully, sometime after Christmas, it will all be done.
What do locals think about the lack of shade and the predominance of tarmac and concrete? Is this an inviting frontage to our town? Will people be inclined to stop and park in the baking heat of summer without any respite from the sun's harsh rays? And, unlike the frontage it replaces, the new development appears to lack any shady spots with tables where visitors can enjoy an snack whilst taking a break from a long journey so will people just drive on to Taupo before taking a break?

Do you think the new Leith Place will inviting to visitors or was it a shame that we've lost the shady space that we once had in the front of town?

Switch to LEDs for the climate

Andrew Caseley from Gen Less

Kahutara Primary School in Featherston is switching to LEDs. All LEDs are Gen Less bulbs as they use less energy, which ultimately helps halt climate change. If we all got on board and switched now it would make a huge difference

For the month of November, we want to raise awareness and work together to end all forms of violence including family harm, elder and child abuse, sexual assault, gang violence, and more. These victimisations affect us all and can have lasting effects that spill into our everyday lives including at work and school.

To do your part this month, perhaps consider supporting a women’s refuge or work with Police in your area to host an info night on how to identify elder or child abuse in your community. This month’s campaign also coincides with White Ribbon Day on 25 November which is an internationally celebrated day that aims to prevent violence towards women.

Let us know how you’re spreading the ‘It’s Not OK’ message in your home or in your community by tagging us in your posts + using the following hashtag so we can see what you get up to:
