Prevent fuel theft

The Team from New Zealand Police

We understand that the global fuel situation is causing people to feel nervous, and some are concerned it could lead to an increase in fuel theft and related crime ⛽ Nationally, Police is watching closely for any trends around fuel theft and associated offences.

Police will remain visible in our communities and will respond to any incidents as they arise.

We know many people feel more reassured if they know what steps they can take to help keep themselves and their property safe.

🔸Keep your car locked in a garage.
🔸If you can’t park your car in a garage then park it on your property with the fuel cap close to the wall or another vehicle to restrict access.
🔸Have security/sensor lighting on around your car, fuel tanks and fuelling areas.
🔸Try to keep fuel out of sight, and ensure fuel tanks are secured and locked to restrict theft and tampering.
🔸Report all suspicious behaviour or incidents to Police: 105 or 105.police.govt.nz for non-urgent matters; or 111 for emergency situations that are happening now.

What's your best cost-saving tip?

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

Just when we thought the cost of living couldn't climb any higher...it does. While things like fuel prices are out of our control, many of us are looking for small, practical ways to stretch our dollars a bit further. So let’s put our heads together!

Over the next little while, we’ll be sharing tips to help you save money — and we’d love to hear yours too. What’s working for you right now?

Here are a few ideas to get started:
🎉 Plan ahead for the year (birthdays, events, travel) to avoid surprise costs
🪙 Check out $2 shops for everyday items like stationery, baking paper, foil, and cling wrap - often much cheaper than the supermarket
🐖 Bring back the piggy bank and save your loose change
🔨 DIY where you can - like mowing the lawn instead of paying someone
💵 Set a daily budget before heading out and stick to it (cash can help!)
🧴 Stretch household products by diluting things like shampoo or dishwashing liquid
