Mercury Energy LPG gas bottle increase
On the 27th June we received notification from Mercury of a significant increase ($25.05 increase for 45kg) in the price of delivered LPG bottles, plus an increase in the daily price of gas bottle hire. This was due to take effect on the 2nd August 2025. 5 days prior to the advertised increase date, I ordered a gas bottle through Mercury website and the new price was already loaded and charged. I contacted Mercury and was told it was amended on my account tot he correct rate (not the website) and order placed, but my monthly bill has arrived and we have been charged at the new rate plus we have been charged for 20 days at the higher bottle rental rate. I have spoken to Mercury who have dismissed my concerns beyond crediting our account for the overcharge. When I asked them how many people they had overcharged they told me I was probably the only one. The gas bottle truck is full when it comes to us for delivery, so clearly that comment can't be correct. If you are a Mercury customer who uses LPG delivered by them, you might want to check your bill.

Poll: Are Kiwis allergic to “exuberance”? 🥝
In The Post’s opinion piece on the developments set to open across Aotearoa in 2026, John Coop suggests that, as a nation, we’re “allergic to exuberance.”
We want to know: Are we really allergic to showing our excitement?
Is it time to lean into a more optimistic view of the place we call home? As big projects take shape and new opportunities emerge, perhaps it’s worth asking whether a little more confidence (and enthusiasm!) could do us some good.
