A beautiful old Pohutukawa Tree on private property at 85 Beach Road in Matua has been poisoned.

Every year herons have nested in the tree, and this malicious act has destroyed their habitat.

This tree was first poisoned last year and the surviving branch has been attacked sometime in the last week, presumably at night. The poisoner drilled holes in the tree and poured petrol/kerosene in the holes.

There is a reward offered for information assisting in a prosecution.
