T.A.B gambling ads during primetime TV
Has anyone else noticed how these slick ad's have crept into Prime time viewing on TV? The latest one is offering a $100 or $50 cash back amount when you join TAB online to do your gambling.
I had my grandkids in hols and on 2 x consecutive nights we watched the Chase (they dont have TV at home and love quizzes) They are 3, 7.9 and 13yrs old. The ad's fascinate them I notice because they don't watch tele and one of them asked me what the TAB ad meant -as it has a catchy jingle tune and offers CASH back!! Alcohol and cigarette ads are NOT allowed during this timeframe (total hypocrisy) and this article from last years Post explains how lame the application of the regulations really is. The Gambling association told me they have put in submissions about it and naught has happened . An addiction gambling is as destructive as any other addiction and yet we are allowed to dangle this 'product' repeatedly in front of under 18 yr olds . I have noted its shown regulalary now within this same timeframe -between 5 and 7pm

Secure your homes over summer
Police are reminding people to keep their homes secure during the summer months.
Inspector Glenda Barnaby, Christchurch Area Prevention manager, says daytime burglaries are just as common as nightime burglaries.
“Burglaries can be committed at any time of the day, and coming into warmer months there is more opportunity for thieves."
"Although a majority of burglaries involve forced entry through windows and doors, we are starting to see more incidents at insecure premises. Police deal with cases where burglaries are committed in broad daylight, sometimes even while the victim is at home. Good weather means open doors and windows, which makes homes more vulnerable to burglars.”
Inspector Barnaby says there’s a few things people can do to reduce their changes of a burglary being committed.
⚠️ If you’re going outside for gardening, relaxing in the sun, or working in the garage, take a moment to lock your doors and secure your windows first.
⚠️ Do the same at night when you go to bed - keep your doors and windows secure and close your curtains. Fitting window stays means you can get a breeze coming through, while keeping your windows secure.
⚠️ Get to know your neighbours - let them know if you’re going away and look out for one another.”
