Assisted Rubbish Collection Not!!

Elly from Welcome Bay

Thursday our red bin was emptied but driver left the food bin which was right next to it. Phone Council 11am and advised them. Was given a complaint number. 3.45pm phoned Tauranga Council and asked when it was going to be collected. Said it would be looked into. Friday morning 11am phoned Tauranga Council, was advised my original complaint had not been actioned and that a further complaint would be made to Envirowaste and someone from the waste management team would phone me.. 3.10 pm after not hearing from anyone, again phoned the Council and asked if someone could tell me when my bin was being emptied and why it was not in the first place. Was told that the second truck should have collected it. I advised the person we only have one truck collecting our rubbish and they appeared rather confused so is the Council paying the rubbish collection people for two trucks when only one is used? Was also put on hold and the person came back and said "sorry the poor people start work early in the morning and have gone home!" Given they are not involved in manual labour this was a bit over the top! Bin was still sitting in the carport until Saturday morning when it was brought back to outside our door. Last complaint was when the yellow bin was emptied on a red bin day and the streets were lined with red bins! At least they sorted that the next day. Not impressed with either the Council or Envirowaste, the latter if they cannot do what they are being paid for so let someone who does know and who is local take over!! Will now have to wait until next Thursday to see if the bin is collected! We pay the wages of all these people so.......!

Stop the Fast Track Mining Bill

Sue from Mount Maunganui

Join the march against the further destruction of our native bush, animals and surrounds. We talk about being environmentally aware and the govt ask us to 'recycle' and stop the single use of plastic bags ! Meantime the building industry is still allowed to wrap entire multistory buildings in non decomposable plastic. Yes folks, meters and meters of this stuff is already in our landfill and leeching into our ocean.

Creativity thrives in Tauranga’s new learning hub

NZ Lotto

Tauranga’s Incubator Creative Hub unveils new campus

In the heart of Tauranga's creative landscape, what began as a small studio space has now blossomed into a vibrant and expansive creative hub thanks in part to lottery funding support from Te Puna Tahua Lottery Grants Board. The Incubator Creative Hub was established at The Historic Village in 2013, with an aim to provide studios and events, support for the creatives in the community, and to attract art groups.

Within a few years of opening, the founders of the Hub saw a huge appetite from the community – but the hub operated in a single room which could only accommodate a small group comfortably. Lotto New Zealand players through Local Grants have helped create the ‘Creative Community Campus’ - a new multi-room, indoor-outdoor haven established in a renovated pre-school building, adding a modern and versatile space.

The Hub now operates an umbrella of sixteen distinct creative entities including five galleries, a music venue, a whakairo hub, artist studios, a photography lab, designer clothing stores and a hip hop/R&B studio. With one hundred percent of Lotto New Zealand profits being returned to local communities, every time you play a Lotto New Zealand game, you’re a Kiwi helping organisations like The Incubator Creative Hub foster a strong, inclusive, and connected community.
