one-off pool registration fee
Has anyone else received this letter ?
A one-off pool registration fee of $134.20. This fee will be charged to all current pool owners whose pool is recorded on council’s residential swimming pool and spa pool register, and will be applied to the owners of all new pools that are installed and entered onto the register.
An inspection fee of $157.30 at the time of the scheduled pool safety barrier inspection.
Re-inspection fees of at least $69.60. If a second inspection is required to recheck any issues that were found to be non-compliant, this will be charged in 20-minute increments at a rate of $69.60 per 20 minutes. Most re-inspections don’t take longer than 20 minutes.
Clearly the council already has a register as they sent us a letter telling us about the new fees. We also had to get consent from them to build it and code of compliance (also charged for) to have it signed off. Plus we have been rechecked in the two years we have had the pool.
So can someone from the council please tell me what the one-off pool registration fee of $134.20 is for, with a break down of this cost. It seems to be a revenue gathering exercise to me. Look forward to hearing from you Tauranga city council, would really like a break down of these costs and when they were decided and by whom....

Poll: Should the government levy industries that contribute to financial hardship?
As reported in the Post, there’s a $30 million funding gap in financial mentoring. This has led to services closing and mentors stepping in unpaid just to keep helping people in need 🪙💰🪙
One proposed solution? Small levies on industries that profit from financial hardship — like banks, casinos, and similar companies.
