A new email scam impersonating the NZTA is being sent around telling vehicle owners their licences are due.

The email directs the recipient to renew the funds through clicking a 'Renew Now' button at the bottom corner of the email. It then takes the individual to fake website that gets them to fill in personal details.

CERT NZ, the government authority responsible for cyber security said in a tweet, that anyone who receives this email should report it directly to Waka Kotahi (NZTA).

How to spot a phishing scam:
- NZTA will only send an email through if an individual has contacted them first.
- Email addresses will always end in @nzta.govt.nz, @enews.nzta.govt.nz or @reply.nzta.govt.nz.
- The email may be missing specific details that the NZTA will have on file: such as your plate number, the date your vehicle license is due and vehicle make and model.
- Hover over buttons and links to see if the pop-up will take you to a genuine government (.govt.nz) website

Neighbourly will update this message as further information comes to hand.

A lot of mahi is going on to remove wilding pines around Taupo's special landscapes. Where today you may see trees turning brown, in future these landscapes will be restored.

This is thanks to huge efforts around the region, involving Iwi Trusts, community groups, volunteers and workers, in coordination with Waikato Regional Council. It's all part of the National Wilding Conifer Control Programme.

If you have questions about wilding pines locally, talk to Waikato Regional Council. To learn about the removal of wildings around Orakei Korako and why we need to prevent the spread, visit wildingpines.nz

A new exhibition showcasing te whare pora (the art of weaving) will launch at the Taupō Museum this Saturday.

The exhibition, Poipoia, Ngā Pia o Te Whare Pora, will include a range of works created by students from Te Wananga o Aotearoa, alongside the Museum’s own collection. Visitors can expect to see kono (baskets), kete (kit) and kakahu (cloaks).

Taupō Museum curator Piata Winitana-Murray said the exhibition also celebrates Matariki (Māori New Year), the star constellation that signals the new year in Māori traditions.

“We’re very proud to exhibit works from both past and present raranga students from Te Wananga o Aotearoa in Turangi, alongside woven pieces from the Museum’s collection.

“These works celebrate the journey of weaving from pia (trainee) to tohunga (expert), exchanging, conversing, as learner and teacher, while under the guiding constellation of Matariki.”

Notable pieces on display include a large, collective piece titled ‘Puawaitanga’ which was created by Te Wananga o Aotearoa students in 2014. As well as a kahu puakarimu (rain cape), a replica of a rare kakahu housed at Te Papa which uses dyed red and black club moss, which was woven by former kaiako (tutor) Margaret Belshaw.

The exhibition is open from this Saturday 19 June through until Friday August 2. Taupō Museum is open seven days from 10am to 4.30pm and entry is free to Taupō District residents with proof of address.
