Increased costs crippling some Rangiora businesses, but others feeling confident
High rents, minimum wage increases and higher operating costs are putting pressure on North Canterbury businesses, but many remain optimistic about their future.
Enterprise North Canterbury (ENC) surveyed 56 businesses and retailers across the region, including 19 from Rangiora, about business confidence, finances, and employment trends.
About 44 per cent of respondents said their profitability had dropped 20 per cent compared to the same time last year, which ENC business support manager Miles Dalton said he was believed was caused by increased operational costs.
Poll: Do you think NZ should ban social media for youth?
The Australian Prime Minister has expressed plans to ban social media use for children.
This would make it illegal for under 16-year-olds to have accounts on platforms including TikTok, Instagram, Facebook and X.
Social media platforms would be tasked with ensuring children have no access (under-age children and their parents wouldn’t be penalised for breaching the age limit)
.
