Health warning for rivers
Health warnings have been issued for rivers in North Canterbury and the Selwyn district
The Canterbury District Health Board says a moderate cover of potentially toxic algae (benthic cyanobacteria) has been found in the Waipara River at Teviotdale.
There are several access points along the river where the algae may be present, so people are urged to watch out for it and avoid contact. People and animals – especially dogs – should avoid the affected area until the health warning has been lifted.
