Cricket, rugby, golf or volunteering - Nigel Coates had a passion for North Canterbury community sport.
OBITUARY: With four life memberships to local sport clubs, Radio Sport always on, and often found down at the cricket oval – sport was the life of North Canterbury's Nigel Coates.
Every weekday "Coatsie" would be on the grounds at Rangiora's MainPower Oval mowing the lawns, out by the workshop or simply having a yarn.
Coates died at Christchurch Hospital on August 12, aged 79, after a lung infection battle.
