Former teacher turned "real-life artist" Geoff Heath has come full circle since starting his career in Canterbury several decades ago.

Heath began painting at a young age, encouraged by his parents, aunts and teachers, and attended art school in Christchurch where he threw himself into all aspects from painting and sculpture to design and art history.

Now he is exhibiting a large selection of his artwork at the Brick Mill Cafe in Waikuku, and is relishing seeing some of his old works of art again.

The exhibition will run daily at the Brick Mill Cafe in Waikuku from 10am to 4pm until June 2.

Barnett joins fellow councillors Dan Gordon, Robbie Brine and Paul Williams in the mayoral race. Veteran politician Jo Kane has also announced she will stand.

Waimakariri's public transport issues could soon be a thing of the past with proposed changes on the table to improve connectivity between towns.

Under the proposal, almost 2500 extra houses would have access to public transport in the centres of Rangiora, Kaiapoi and Woodend.

The centres would also be better linked by public transport, with two new Link services planned to enable people to travel between the three townships.

North Canterbury teen Luke Price to represent NZ in cycling

Canterbury teenager Luke Price will once again pull on the silver fern when he travels to Australia next week for the Canberra Junior Tour.

The 15-year-old Kaiapoi High School student has made the New Zealand under-17 road cycling team for the second year in a row.
