To reduce drafts around your windows, and therefore keep your home warmer during winter, it is worth checking your friction stays - the hinge which holds the part of the window which opens to the frame. There are several problems which can develop over time:

1. The friction wears out & windows flop open in the breeze,

2. The hinge gets corroded & stiff to open, sometimes this can be re-covered by spraying the 4 friction joints with a spray lube, anything but the red 556 CRC which has a cutting compound in it.

3. The hinge wears & loses the ability to pull the top of the window closed

An easy way to check your friction stays is with our free draft testing card. To request a card, or book a free assessment, give us a call on 0800 25 25 00

Over the last month I have noticed our wood pile going very quickly. in fact a little too quick. and am almost certain someone comes at night to take an arm load of wood. this morning I noticed a large area of empty space where I would not usually leave in that way. Our large logs have gone very quick. If someone cheeky enough to take a piece of wood on top of a free article even though it was clearly a sign then well wood theifs are around.

Help needed - Please Share - It's that time of the year again... well, in New Zealand anyway. Unwanted baby calves are being sent to slaughter and it's happening right now. I've got the first arrival this week (4 days old) and it's hard to choose which ones are going to come home and to leave the others behind... We could do with a bit of help - calf milk powder, bottles and teats, covers, straw and hay.. we are based in Woodend and drop-offs would be absolutely amazing! I know we can't save them all but: “Whoever saves one life saves the world entire.” Quote - Schindler's List.

A North Canterbury grandfather is desperate to spend time with his mokopuna, but an uncommon medical condition means he can’t tolerate their noise.

Rangiora’s Ivan Rupene-Ryan only received an official diagnosis of superior canal dehiscence syndrome (SCDS) in recent months, but has lived with the progressive intolerance to noise since his first episode almost two years ago.

He hopes his noise issues will be rectified through surgery. He is due to have otolaryngology surgery in two weeks and while he knows that comes with its own risks, he has to go through with it to give himself any chance at a return to normal life.

He wanted to share his story to let anyone else living with the condition know they were not alone and to try to improve others’ understanding of what it was like to live with such a condition constantly.

“I am 83 living alone. My neighbours Grant and Annette Phillips were wonderful during the lockdown, getting my shopping and taking me to the dentist when I broke my dentures and had no way of getting them mended. When I needed help in an emergency they were there for me reattaching the connections under my bed which I could not get to.They have taken me to doctors appointments and helped when I needed help in the house after a fall and when my Medic Alarm has been activated.”
