I’ve just had a few days with my Mum in Timaru. Over coffee, Mum and I discussed how she could be better prepared for an emergency, particularly as she has limited mobility but doesn’t like to be too dependent on other people.

My Mum already does a lot to support her neighbours through good times and through challenges. I reckon that like a lot of older people, even if she needs a little more help with the physical aspects of coping in an emergency, she has a lot to offer in other ways. How about your older neighbours?
