We’re fortunate here in Marlborough to have the skilled and dedicated Marlborough emergency response team (the MERT).
Next month, MERT members will start their training in ground-based rescue. This will give us more capability to support other rescue agencies in an emergency, particularly if our region is isolated. If you’re interested in volunteering for the MERT or any other role in civil defence, please get in touch!

Parents and caregivers have until August 31 to have their say about the timebands, parental locks and classifications labels that help to protect what their children watch on free-to-air television.
Hundreds of people have already given their feedback about whether there should still be restrictions around when certain programmes, including Adults Only, can be broadcast on free-to-air television.
Options being considered include removing all of the timeband restrictions, altering them, or keeping them the same.
The Broadcasting Standards Authority (BSA) is also considering whether free-to-air television should adopt the same classification labels as pay television to provide consistency. It would mean switching from G (General), PGR (Parental Guidance Recommended) and AO (Adults Only) to G, PG, M (Mature), 16 and 18.
Find out more by visiting bsa.govt.nz.
Feedback can be given via a short online survey, by emailing info@bsa.govt.nz or by writing to Broadcasting Standards Authority, PO Box 9213, Wellington 6141.

Izabella was born profoundly deaf and in the four years following her diagnosis, her parents' emotions of shock, being scared and overwhelmed have turned to amazement, surprise and hope - all thanks to Izabella's progress as a hearing and speaking child.
Izabella loves to sing and dance, she enjoys gymnastics, bike rides and playing with her older brothers. What are her superpowers I hear you ask? She's fierce, adventurous and caring!

Does anyone have any ideas what to do with the brown paper bags that some supermarkets supply these days. I know they can be put out for recycling but does anyone use them again for something else?

I would love to have a chat with those responsible for our own BBC, so let me know if you have any further info about these radio-heads!

I have a fairly basic Janome sewing machine, don't know how old, that has decided to make funny noises while skipping stitches and refusing to do the more complex built in stitches. Can anyone recommend a serviceman that could take a look and recommend either fixing or replacing... Thanks.
